Kate Hudson, the Hollywood actress who won the hearts of audiences in a string of romantic comedies, has faced a backlash after saying the “laziest” thing she’s ever done was to have a caesarean birth.
In a cover interview for the October issue of Cosmopolitan the star was asked to fill out a questionnaire.
Her answers were innocuous until she reached the question “What’s the laziest thing you’ve ever done?”
Hudson, a 38-year-old mother-of-two, scrawled “Have a C-Section!”
It may have been a bad joke but the wrath from mothers on social media was swift and fierce.
On Twitter Hudson was accused of making a “stupid” remark as other women who have undergone C-sections reminded her that it is major surgery.
Others said C-sections are often carried out in emergencies and had saved the lives of their children.
A mother wrote: “Hey Kate Hudson, please tell me which part of major abdominal surgery is ‘lazy’? The procedure? The heal time? The nine months of work prior?”
Another said: “Kate Hudson, having my daughter by C-section instead of letting her die was really ‘lazy’ of me. Lost so much respect for you there.”
The controversy happened as Hudson, the daughter of Goldie Hawn, took part in a telethon for victims of Hurricane Harvey, which raised $14.5 million in an hour.
